Description

46 Cross Street is a two-storey, three-bay double-depth building parallel to the street, dating from the 18th century. The front is rendered and painted, with a natural slate roof and a red brick stack. The ground floor features a modern plate glass window to the left and a glazed door with sidelights in the centre. These replaced a previous public house front between 1947 and 1974, but the covering fascia is part of that original frontage. A plank carriage door on the right provides access to the yard at the rear. The first-floor windows are unevenly spaced, comprising two 3 over 6 pane sashes and one 3 over 3 pane to the right. A wrought iron projecting sign bracket is present. The roof is steeply pitched, with a tall brick stack to the left gable, which was heightened when the adjoining house was constructed. Later additions are visible on the rear elevation. The interior of the main ground floor room retains a notable feature: close-set and deeply chamfered cross-beams.
