Description

Coed Parc is an Arts and Crafts/Art Nouveau villa that serves as the headquarters of Mid-Glamorgan County Libraries. The building features two storeys and an attic, with a roughcast exterior and a three plus one window front that includes a cill band and plinth. The outer bays of the main block are advanced, while the left-hand bay is set back. It has hipped slate roofs, which may have a Lutyenesque style, adorned with finials and ridge tiling, and wide bracket eaves. The villa is topped with tall plain roughcast chimney stacks and has grouped attic lights at the center under a pedimented flat roof. The windows are designed with cross-frame glazing and colored glass upper panes, and the first floor windows are three-light with blind boxes. A central door leads to a timber balcony featuring simple Art Nouveau details, situated above an entrance flanked by twin segmental suspended arches and five-light bay windows, all topped with an overall dentil cornice. There is also an offset half-glazed door that opens into a mosaic-paved porch.

To the left, there is a segmental entrance that is positioned at an angle, with later alterations made to the ground floor that include a one-storey extension. The right side of the building has a two-window arrangement with an advanced chimney breast and one window featuring a pedimented lintel. The rear of the building is similarly roughcast.

An annexe built in 1947 is not considered of special interest, although it was once used as a design shop by Thomas and Baldwin Ltd for Llanwern steelworks.

Inside, the villa retains a fully wainscoted entrance hall and stairwell, showcasing Art Nouveau detailing, along with a segmental-headed fireplace with tapered pilasters in a similar lecture room.
