Description
Hamilton House is a three-storey, three-window front house dating from the Regency period. The exterior is finished in stucco with decorative bands between the floors. It features Ionic pilasters at the ends of the first floor and a rusticated ground floor. The slate roof has wide eaves supported by paired brackets.
On the top floor, there is a central 2-light window flanked by 3-light windows. The first floor has a tall 2-light window flanked by tall 3-light windows, all adorned with bracketed cornices. The ground floor includes a central doorway with pilasters, fielded panelled reveals, a fielded panelled door, and a rectangular fanlight with ornate tracery. On either side of the doorway, there are splayed bay windows with two round-headed lights at the front and one on each side of the splay, also topped with bracketed cornices. To the left, there is a narrow doorway with a door featuring round-headed panels.
The rear garden contains contemporary brick gazebos. Inside, Hamilton House boasts a very fine Regency interior with cornices, doors, and chimney pieces. The first-floor saloon features a Bacchic frieze, and there is a semi-apsidal stair.
