Description

Govilon House is a late-Georgian, two-story, three-window house. The front facade is painted roughcast and close to symmetrical. It has a tall slate roof, originally M-shaped, with cement-rendered chimney stacks serving fireplaces on the rear slope. The roofline has a coved eaves band. The windows are small-pane sashes, with 12 panes on the first floor and 20 panes on the ground floor, framing a large six-panel front door with a three-pane overlight. There are small-pane casements in the left-hand gable end, and a single window high up at the right-hand end, which is skewed backwards along the line of the side lane. The rear elevation features four-pane sash windows, and adjacent to it is a modernised, single-story former stable range.

Inside, the central entrance hall retains the original staircase with a turned newel, straight balusters and broad oak treads. Features include moulded cornices, six-panel doors, panelled shutters, and panelled cupboards. The main rooms contain one marble fireplace and another decorated with gilded wood.
