Description
The garden terrace wall, located to the north of the former house site, dates back to when the house was in use. The house was positioned on a wide platform, with steps leading down to terraces and a parterre garden. The eastern side of the terrace is supported by a high revetment wall that features a parapet. This wall has northern and eastern sections, with returns to the south and west. The revetment is made of coursed grey rock-faced stone. The parapets consist of limestone panels that are pierced with quatrefoils arranged in lozenges, separated by square piers. Each angle of the lozenges is adorned with unique foliate bosses. The wall also includes moulded copings and a string course decorated with Tudor flower motifs. At the northeast corner, there is a diagonal buttress, which supports a spout and gargoyle shaped like a bearded and bespectacled man. Additionally, along the eastern side, there is an arched recess designed to protect the roots of a nearby oak tree.
