Description

28 The Watton is a two-storey, three-bay building dating from the early to mid-19th century. It has a slate roof with end stacks and a central gabled dormer. The walls are rendered with cement. The window openings have moulded architraves, and the windows are four-pane sashes. In the centre of the front are paired doorways, each with wooden architraves, but without a doorcase. Each door consists of six panels, with the two upper panels glazed; a modern shop door is located to the right. A two-storey extension with modern detailing projects to the left. The right (southeast) return elevation includes a shop front on the ground floor and a lower two-storey wing extending to Little Free Street, featuring a rounded corner. A six-pane sash window sits above a ground floor splayed bay window. A chimney is located in the gable end of the wing facing Little Free Street.
