Description

Ty’r Ysgol is a late 18th-century rubble stone building with slate roofs, originally comprising a schoolroom and a former schoolhouse. The schoolroom, to the left, is single-storey and features a tall wall-face stone chimney centrally located. It has a large three-light window with top-lights and small panes on each side of the chimney, and a similar single-light window to the right. A gabled porch is situated at the extreme right, forming an angle with the schoolhouse, and includes a pointed doorway with stone voussoirs, a plank door, and a Gothic fanlight. A plain door with stone voussoirs formerly provided access from the north end wall. The rear of the schoolroom contains four similar three-light windows.

The former schoolhouse, to the south, has a prominent projecting west gable with a roughcast stack on the north side wall. It is two-storeys high, featuring long two-light windows with top-lights and small panes, stone voussoirs, and stone sills. The gable displays one window on each floor, the lower one being longer, along with a similar single-light window on the south side. A roughcast lean-to porch sits in the angle with the gabled south wing, which also has windows matching those in the west gable. The porch was likely added later, and the inner door is half-glazed.
