Description
Brynberian Independent Chapel is a building constructed from squared rubble stone, topped with a slate eaves roof. The eaves feature paired brackets and a fretted roundel pattern on the eaves board. The lateral facade includes two large central windows and two outer doors, all arched with painted Cilgerran stone recessed voussoirs. A roundel plaque in the center reads: "Brynberian Independent Chapel Built 1690, Rebuilt 1808, Rebuilt 1843, Restored 1882, Restored 1961. Rev. E. Lewis Minister." The windows have small panes with Gothic glazing bars at the heads, which are also reflected in the door fanlights. The doors are double 4-panel doors from the 20th century. The left end wall is clad in zinc sheet and features one gallery light with a later 19th-century sash window. The right end has a similar window, while the rear has two long flat-headed windows.
The interior dates from 1882 to 1884 and includes pews arranged in a double center block with additional blocks on each side. There are plain benches in the great seat, which have ball finials. The pulpit features a canted front with a diagonal-cross pattern on the panels, and steps on each side with ball finials on the newels. The pulpit-back is plastered and has console brackets supporting an arched head. A gallery extends on three sides, supported by fluted iron columns. The gallery has curved angles and a cornice beneath long horizontal panels, each side containing a small square center panel. The center front of the gallery features a clock. There are lobbies under the gallery ends with an internal window made of colored and etched glass. The ceiling has been clad in the 20th century.
