Description

Merrion Court is an early 19th century house located in Pembrokeshire, originally described by Fenton in 1811 as a manor in ruins that belonged to Lord Cawdor. The current house and farm likely date from around the time they were leased to Lieutenant Brown in 1820.

The house faces south and features a rear wing and outbuildings, with a single-storey extension on the west side. It is two storeys high with a three-window range. A central arch-headed doorway is set within a large hipped-roofed porch that has a window at the front and an external door on the west side. The house has recessed sash windows without horns, with three and six-pane sashes above and six-pane sashes below, all featuring thin glazing bars. The construction includes rubble masonry with rough-cast render, except for the corners and window surrounds, which are finished with smooth render. The roof is hipped and covered with asbestos slates, and there are end chimneys, one of which on the west side has been widened with an additional flue. The rear wing also has sash windows, with one partially hidden behind the main range's rear wall, which has been deepened by about 2 meters.

At the rear, there is a small courtyard that includes a dairy with barred windows to the north. At the junction of the rear wing and the dairy block, there is a corn drying kiln with a drying floor and a granary above it. Additionally, there is a stable and a pigeon-loft to the north.

Merrion Court is a good quality house associated with an important tenant holding on the Stackpole Estate and features interesting outbuildings.
