Description
The Former Crossing Keeper's Cabin is a small, single-storey building dating from the 19th century. It features a timber frame with plank cladding and a brick end wall on the left, topped with a corrugated tin roof. The cabin has a central four-panel timber door with glazed upper panels and a four-pane casement window to the right. An external stepped brick chimney stack is located on the left side. Long five-pane windows at the rear and right side likely provide visibility onto and along the railway line. Attached to the front of the cabin is a cast iron lever mechanism, which may relate to the operation of the cabin and the control of the crossing.
Inside, the cabin has a single room layout that includes a small cast iron range with a shelf above on the left and a raised sleeping platform on the right, showing signs of former fittings underneath. The floor is made of concrete, with a hearth stone in front of the range. The ceiling is lined with tongue and groove timber. Other internal features include a mirrored glass in the rear window, a roller blind, and shelving at the front window.
