Description
The Holmes is a 1½-storey cottage built of squared rubble stone, with random rubble on the sides and rear featuring larger quoins and tooled dressings. It has a steep slate roof adorned with wavy barge boards and stone stacks at both ends. The front of the cottage is symmetrical with three bays, highlighted by a central entrance in an advanced gabled bay. This entrance features replacement double-panelled doors and a 2-pane overlight set in a chamfered surround, along with a 2-light casement window above. The outer bays contain 3-light wooden mullioned-and-transomed windows beneath flat arches. Lean-tos have been added on both sides of the cottage; the left side includes a blocked camber-headed doorway with an inserted 2-light casement, while the right side has a similar doorway with a boarded door. The gable ends each have two windows with replacement metal frames in the attic, positioned under wooden lintels. The lean-tos also feature a similar window and a doorway, which is blocked on the right side and has a boarded door on the left side. At the rear, there are three small-pane wooden cross windows under cambered heads, along with a central gabled dormer that includes a 2-light small-pane casement window. The property has not been inspected.
