Description

This is a three-storey building on Well Street, constructed in the 18th century. It has a three-window front facing Well Street, and a two-window front to Railway Terrace, which is the west gable end. The building is built of red brick with darker brick headers, and has a slate roof with four truncated brick stacks, two at each end. Architectural details include a modillion eaves cornice, stone sill bands to the first and second floors, and a pecked stone plinth. The windows are six-pane horned sashes with flat-arched brickwork heads.

The ground floor of the Well Street front has a window to the right and a double shop front in the centre and to the left. The shop front features six plain pilasters with moulded capitals and roundels to the abaci, supporting a dentilled cornice. The shop fronts have glazed doors with two-pane overlights, replacing earlier panelled doors. Transomed three-light shop windows are located to the left of each shop front, the one on the right featuring a top-hung light. A narrow section of brickwork is located between the right-hand door and window.

The west gable end to Railway Terrace has two widely-spaced sash windows as the front, with a panelled door under a frosted glass overlight to the left at ground floor level. There was previously a shop window at this location, now blocked.

The rear elevation to the right of Railway Terrace is rendered to the second storey without any openings. The rear elevation to the left of Railway Terrace is also rendered and has late 20th-century windows, some of which are uPVC. The interior of the building has not been inspected.
