Description

The property comprises a single-storey gate lodge, built in the 19th century, along with adjoining gates and gatepiers. The lodge is constructed of uncoursed, dressed limestone blocks on a chamfered plinth, with a slate roof and brown sandstone dressings; the rear is scribed and rendered. The lodge's main section is J-shaped, with a later addition mirroring this design, creating an E-shaped plan. It has coped gable parapets throughout.

The north-facing side, which faces the drive, features a single-storey gabled porch with a large, canted bay window to the right. The porch’s entrance has a stepped approach with a Tudor-arched head and double-chamfered jambs, leading to a boarded and studded door with simple ironwork; a trefoil light sits in the gable apex above. To the left return of the porch is a 2-light, arched-headed mullioned leaded window, and to the left again is a single-light, flat-headed window. Both sections have sandstone corbelling to the eaves. The faces of the bay window are punctuated with single-light leaded windows, with further single-lights and eaves corbelling to its return and to a recessed section on the right. This section has been extended by approximately 1m.

The eastern side, facing the road, features a second gabled porch on the left of the main lodge, now centrally located. This porch has a stopped-chamfered, square-headed entrance with a modern panelled door and square windows to the returns. To the right is the advanced gable of the north section, featuring a 2-light leaded window and, above, a recessed, flattened Tudor-arched sandstone date plaque inscribed with the date 1870. A star-shaped chimney stands on the primary north block, resting on a double-chamfered base, capped with moulded and chamfered details. A 20th-century addition to the left is built of similar materials, and includes a 2-light window to the gabled front section, modern openings to the side and rear, and a plain 2-stage chimney.

Adjoining the north side are the gates and gatepiers, extending in bays to form a screen wall. They are constructed from snecked limestone ashlar with sandstone copings, simple iron railings with arcaded decoration, and four piers with chamfered corners and moulded pyramidal sandstone capping. The gates have simple ironwork, with arcaded decoration on the upper section and intersecting lozenges below. A contemporary low rubble forecourt wall adjoins the south side via a pair of simple iron gates, forming a curved forecourt boundary to the road-facing side of the lodge, with stone copings and an iron and wire fence on top. The interiors have been modernised.
