Description
Middle Lodge is a one-and-a-half storey gabled lodge built in the Tudor vernacular style. It is constructed of red brick with buff sandstone dressings and features steeply-pitched slate roofs that have off-set dentilation at the eaves. The lodge has two chimneys, with the front chimney showcasing three grouped stacks; both chimneys are staged and adorned with moulded and dentilated cornicing. A distinctive feature of the building is its 2- and 3-light iron-framed lozenge-patterned glazing.
On the long side facing the road, there is a single-storey wooden open porch with a slated gabled roof, deep verges, and plain bargeboards. The porch is supported by stopped-chamfered posts with curved braces. The door is boarded and features simple decorative hinges. The building has been enlarged at the rear and includes some modern features, but it generally maintains the original detailing. The interior was not inspected during the survey conducted in July 1997.
