Description

Colwyn House is a Romanesque style building of the early 20th century, constructed with a white ashlar facade and a parapet concealing the roof. The building is of two storeys, with an advanced shop front at ground level and arcaded windows on the first floor. Ashlar pilasters flank the front, supporting neo-Egyptian capitals. The shop front has been renewed but retains its original layout, featuring doorways on either side of a central display window, with additional windows flanking those. The first-floor windows are arranged as a nine-bay arcade, featuring low reliefs within the tympana and variously patterned shafts, as well as heavy latticed windows. An arcaded corbel table is also present.

The shop's interior retains much of its original detail, including two large shopping floors with panelled ceilings and coffering to the upper storey. The original staircase has also survived.
