Description

Byrllysg is a 16th-century farmhouse with a two-storey, two-unit plan. It is constructed from mortared rubble masonry, featuring large stones as quoins and lintels. The slate roof has stone parapet copings on rough stone kneelers, and tall gable stacks with dripstones and capping.

The main elevation now faces southwest down the Coed y Byrllysg valley and consists of a three-window range with openings concentrated towards the center, including a central doorway. The door is half glazed, and the windows are timber casements. The upper floor windows are set in gabled half dormers that break the eavesline, with the central dormer inscribed with the date 1761 in the stone to the left of the window. The footing at the base of the wall to the right of the doorway suggests some rebuilding, likely when the building was realigned.

The rear elevation, originally the front, also features a doorway towards the center, with the original doorway to the left now partially blocked and containing a window in the upper part. The upper floor has two small timber casement windows widely spaced directly under the eaves.

On the southeast gable, there is a lean-to addition with a roof of profiled metal sheeting, a dripcourse above the current roof level, and a single doorway at the left end of the southeast wall.

Inside, the farmhouse retains the original timber-framed partitions of the cross passage and one original segmental-headed doorway. To the right, there is evidence of another doorway that is now blocked. At the northwest end of the house, there is a blocked inglenook fireplace at ground floor level. The fireplace at the opposite end has been removed, but the upper floor features a massive fireplace that has been partially blocked, with new fireplaces inserted into the reduced openings multiple times.
