Description

Y Bont Fawr is a twin carriageway stone bridge that slopes from north to south. It features seven arches, with the southern five dating from the 17th century, extending up to the spandrels, and constructed with stone voussoirs and buttresses. The two northern arches and the upstream side were modified in the late 19th century, showcasing recessed arch rings, stone voussoirs, and rock-faced masonry. The bridge has prow-shaped cutwaters, with two modern additions on the upstream side. The late 19th-century parapet includes a string course and capstones that have been reused from earlier work. Plain pilasters rise from the buttresses on the downstream side.
