Description

Newborough Cross is a memorial cross made of large, worked blocks of grey stone. The cross itself is a single monolith featuring a tall, tapering shaft and a wheel-cross head adorned with incised decorations, including three sunflower roundels on the arms and a vesica with a monogram in the center. It stands on a plain square base atop a massive square pedestal, which has an inscription and a plinth made of two large slabs, all without additional ornamentation. The inscription commemorates Sir Spencer Bulkely Wynn, 5th Baronet and 3rd Baron Newborough of Glynllifon and Bodfean, who lived from 1803 to 1888 and was buried here in 1889. A rear inscription notes that the cross was erected in 1891 by F G Wynn.
