Description

This listing describes a pair of farm courts known as Hendy/Ty Nant and Ty Bach/Ty Nesaf, which date from the 19th century. The buildings are constructed from rubble stone and feature slate roofs, all enclosed by walls topped with squared stone capping. On the eastern side, there are paired entrances that lead through semi-elliptical arches made of brick.

The single-storey outbuildings are arranged against the enclosing walls of the courts in a roughly mirror image. The main L-plan ranges have short arms flanking the entrance arches and long arms extending down the north and south sides. These ranges typically include a barn, cowhouse, cartshed, and stable, similar to other island farmyards. There are also separate double pig kitchens and double pigsties located back-to-back against the wall that separates the two courts. The stable doors have slab lintels, the windows feature small panes above boarding, and the cart entries are topped with shallow brick arches. Each pig kitchen has a red brick chimney on the ridge and two doors on each gable end.

Inside the southern court, the L-plan range includes a cart-entry, a door, a window, and another door in the short arm, along with wooden stairs leading to a loft door in the gable end, which has a window above it. The long arm contains a door, a window, three doors, a vent loop, and additional doors. The rear wall has three loops at the upper level, with two doors on the left, a door in the center, and a door and window on the right. The northern side features lean-to pigsties in the northwest corner, with stone yard walls and the gable of the pig kitchen projecting centrally, which has two gable-end doors and a window in each side wall. A red brick ridge stack serves all four kitchens.

The northern court has a similar arrangement, but the L-plan block is shorter. It includes a cart-entry and a door in the short arm, along with a gable end loft door and window. The long arm has a window, three doors, and a loop.

Cobbled paths run along the fronts of the buildings. The interiors have similar details to other farm courts, with cobbled floors in the stables and cowhouses, slate floors in the barns with wooden inset threshing floors, and slate-floored pig kitchens.
