Description
Capel Peniel and chapel house is an early 19th-century chapel and chapel house, positioned laterally with the entrance at the southwest end. The structure is built of rubble masonry and features a slate roof. The chapel house has rendered rectangular stacks with capping, including a gable stack on the left and an axial stack offset to the right of the doorway. The windows have slate sills, and the ground floor openings are topped with rough voussoir heads.
The chapel has a single doorway on the right, with a small casement window located under the eaves above it. The doorway on the left has been blocked, and a larger 12-pane horned sash window has been added to the first floor. The chapel house consists of a two-window range with a doorway offset to the left; it has replacement casement windows with rendered architraves and a modern door situated within a modern gabled porch. The rear elevation features an irregular mix of windows. The chapel has two blocked openings on the first floor and a blocked ground floor doorway, which have been remodelled with three first-floor windows of varying sizes, including a small four-paned horned sash window on the right and a ground floor casement window with a smooth rendered architrave. The chapel house has first-floor casement windows, and the ground floor includes a single doorway beneath the left (northeast) stack, flanked by casement windows, and a single casement window on the right with an original rough voussoir head.
The interior was not inspected during the survey but is noted in a previous listing description to contain a gallery supported by wooden octagonal posts, as well as a pulpit and box pews with sunk panels.
