Description
Bryn Hyfryd is a 19th-century rectory that features a two-storey structure with a three-window front and a service wing that extends at right angles to the rear, creating an L-shaped layout. The service wing has been extended to the north and east, changing from a gable roof to a hipped roof. There is also a single-storey lean-to porch located in the angle to the west. Adjacent to the right (west) wall of the rectory is a single-storey outbuilding range.
The building is constructed of rubble masonry with roughcast rendered walls above a smooth rendered plinth. It has a slate roof with projecting eaves and rendered rectangular gable stacks, which indicate the former extent of the gabled wing. The main facade faces south and consists of three windows with a central entrance accessed through a canted, flat-roofed porch. The windows are 12-paned hornless sashes with slate sills.
On the right (east) gable return, there is a small first-floor sash window, while the left gable return features an 8-pane ground floor sash window on the right (south), a 12-pane window on the left, and a 9-pane window above it. The rear of the house includes a ground floor sash window to the right (west) of the service wing, a large stair window to its left, and a single ground and first-floor window to the left (east). Most of the rear windows have been replaced with modern casements. The service wing has ground and first-floor windows along its east lateral wall and at the north end, as well as a single first-floor window in the west lateral wall above the porch. The extension to the east has a ground floor window in the east wall and a small first-floor window set under the eaves in the north wall.
The rear entrance to the house is located in the north wall of a long lean-to porch, which has two windows along the west wall overlooking the rear yard. The single-storey outbuilding range to the west of the rectory features four modern casement windows along its length. The interior was not inspected during the survey.
