Description
The bridge over the River Cur at Glenbranter is an early 19th century structure featuring two arches and is notable for being in original condition. It holds historical significance as part of the reconstruction of the road from Strachur to Ardentinny after 1806.
This bridge was part of the earlier road south from Strachur to Ardentinny and Dunoon, which originally ran on the west side of the river north of Glenbranter before crossing at this location. The bridge has a nearly flat profile, with only a slight rise at the center, and is constructed entirely of rubble, featuring two wide segmental arches. There is a single cutwater on both the upstream and downstream sides. The parapet is topped with rough rubble coping, and the soffit has been cement-rendered.
