Description
Kendrum Burn Viaduct is a concrete structure built between 1901 and 1905, likely designed by Simpson and Wilson, with alterations made in 1997. The viaduct features a slightly curved design with five spans, including four 40-foot concrete arches that cross the valley, originally flanking an 82-foot girder span over the Kendrum Burn. In 1997, the original girder span was replaced with a tubular-steel bowstring span. The east elevation of the viaduct includes regularly spaced manholes. The concrete surface is channelled, and there is a string course and a coped parapet. This viaduct is a notable example of concrete engineering, showcasing both its scale and design.
