Description

Rockbank is a two-storey, three-bay gable-fronted villa built in the earlier to mid-19th century, located on the south side of Midge Lane and facing the Holy Loch. At the rear, there is a late 19th-century single-storey and attic rectangular coach house. The villa is made of harled rubble with sandstone dressings, featuring a slate roof and stone chimney stacks topped with polygonal clay cans at the gables. The windows are mainly round-headed timber sash and case with lying-panes.

The main (south) elevation has a gable on the left, which includes a hood-moulded window on the first floor and a framed window below. To the right, there is a pitch-roofed half-dormer, and in the centre, a slated-cheek dormer. A flat-roofed cast iron entrance porch with brattishing and fretwork arcades is positioned centrally. The gables are adorned with decorative bargeboarding. Some features at the rear of the house may have been added later, such as the wide tripartite dormers. The interior of the house was not inspected in 2004 or 2016.

The coach house features a central gable with a square-headed cart door and a hayloft above. Its rear (south) elevation has a pair of gables. Constructed in rubble stone, it has some brick repairs on the rear openings and a piended roof that is slated. The windows are timber sash and case with a 12-pane glazing pattern. The interior, seen in 2016, is divided into two sections and includes a loft with a timber floor.

Surrounding the property are rubble boundary walls to the east, west, and south. The southern wall has a central opening with a gate that provides access to the shore of the Holy Loch.
