Description
Dalnavert Farmhouse in Kincraig dates from around 1810 and is a traditional two-storey, three-bay farmhouse that includes an earlier 18th century single-storey block attached to the west gable, creating an L-shaped plan. There is also a U-shaped steading located to the southwest of the farmhouse. The building is constructed from harled, squared, and snecked rubble with regularly spaced openings. A later addition is a single-storey porch with a pitched roof, located at the central bay of the south elevation, featuring a timber-boarded door. The upper windows are positioned close to the eaves, while smaller openings are found at the east and west gable ends.
The farmhouse has timber sash and case windows throughout, with four-pane glazing on the ground floor and nine-pane glazing on the upper level. The main block is roofed with grey Ballachulish slate and has tall harled stacks, while the single-storey block features thicker Tomintoul slate and unharled stacks with thack-stanes. The building displays prominent skews and clay cans.
Inside, the farmhouse has notable features including a two-leaf panelled timber door with etched glass in the porch vestibule, lime-washed pine panelling on the walls and ceiling of the single-storey section, timber panelled doors, a timber fire surround with a consoled mantelpiece, and timber shutters. There is also a cellar.
The steading block, dating from the late 18th century, is U-shaped with an additional detached range to the north. It is made of random rubble with irregular openings and has a pitched, corrugated-iron roof. The floors are stone-cobbled, and there are timber partitions and hay-troughs that remain in relatively good condition.
