Description
Muirmill is a farm complex featuring buildings that date from the 18th century to the late 19th century. The farmhouse, likely from the 18th century, is a single-storey structure that has been rendered, re-roofed with slate, and had dormers inserted, with a northern wing added in the late 19th century.
To the west, there is a byre and dairy range from around 1800, which is also a single-storey building, partly double pile, and is now primarily used for domestic purposes. The threshing mill range, built in the early 19th century, is constructed of rubble with tooled, long and short ashlar dressings. It is a single-storey building with a tall loft, featuring two cart bays with a loft above to the north and a central threshing barn that retains its machinery. This barn is linked to a large breast-shot water wheel at the rear, which is likely a later replacement. Additional storage bays are located to the south, with one later slapping and one blocked door on the gable end, all under a piended slate roof. A lade runs along the west side of the mill, originating from a rubble horseshoe dam and a mill pond located to the north of the B818.
Additionally, there is a double byre and a detached stable to the north, which are probably from the late 19th century and feature stone trevises.
