Description
The East Gardens Boundary Wall and Gateways at Keir House were built between 1849 and 1862. The wall is constructed of rubble and includes sections that retain earth, with piers placed at intervals topped by boulder finials.
A shouldered flat archway-bridge features curved stepped side walls, with the word 'SALVE' inscribed at the parapet. The masonry is rock-faced and laid in even courses.
The rusticated gateway has round-arched windows on either side and a balcony above. The curved side walls incorporate stairs leading up to the gateway. A round arch is flanked by consoles and topped with a swan motif. The entrance is completed with wrought-iron gates.
