Currie House, 63 Almada Street, Hamilton

Currie House, located at 63 Almada Street in Hamilton, dates from around 1835 and is a symmetrical late classic townhouse. The main block is two stories high with a three-window front and features a central panelled door set within a broad plain architrave topped by a block pediment. The ground floor windows are framed with architraves and cornices, while the first floor windows have architraves with crossettes. The building is constructed with stugged coursers that have margins at the angles, and it has a main cornice beneath a gabled roof with straight skews and truncated ashlar stacks, although the roof is now covered with modern tiles.

There are single-storey wings on either side, each with balustraded parapets and one window, although the left wing's window is blocked. The wings have piended roofs. The building has undergone alterations, particularly to the glazing, and the flanks and rear are rendered. Inside, there is a good curved stair and heavy plasterwork.
