Description
Larkhall Viaduct is a high six-span steel X-truss bridge built by the Arrol Brothers between 1898 and 1904, spanning the River Avon. The bridge features independent sections constructed from box frames with lattice work braces. It has cantilevered girders and steel plate decking, along with catwalks and plain handrails. There is a timber-floored maintenance walkway along the south side. The piers are tapered and made of bull-faced cream sandstone with granite cores, resting on concrete foundations that have a narrow strip detail at the angles.
