Wandel Farm

Wandel Farm is an earlier 19th century, two-storey farmhouse with a symmetrical three-bay square plan and a piended roof. It features a large adjoining square-plan open courtyard range at the rear, which has been converted into separate houses: Wandel Farm at the back of the house, Wandel Barn in the northern range, and Rowan Stables in the southern range. The exterior is made of painted rubble with stugged margined sandstone quoins, a base course, a banded eaves course, stone cills, and margined window surrounds. The entrance has a plain pilastered doorpiece and decorative bracketed hoodmoulds over the flanking windows. There is a later canted bay window on the south elevation, which has a 20th century conservatory infilling the recess at the rear.

The windows predominantly feature a 4-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case style, with a 12-pane lying-pane pattern on the first floor of the main elevation. The roof has paired corniced ashlar ridge stacks and is covered with grey slate.

Inside, there is a good plain classical decorative scheme, including a large entrance hall with an unusual layout featuring a side window and a linear stair rising from the rear. The principal room has a decorative cornice, and most rooms have working timber shutters and fireplaces.
