Description
3 Racecourse Road in Ayr is a later 19th-century, two-storey, six-bay double symmetrical villa situated on a corner site, with an additional single bay extension to the left. The building features polished ashlar stonework, with a channelled design at the ground floor. It has a base course, a dividing storey band course, an eaves course, and a timber mutuled cornice. The first-floor windows are adorned with aprons and architraves.
The west elevation, which serves as the entrance, has steps leading to central entrances flanked by columned porches that are fluted, corniced, and topped with block pediments. The timber doors have letterbox fanlights above them, and there are single windows aligned above on the first floor. The remaining bays on both floors exhibit regular fenestration, while the lower height section on the outer left has single windows on both floors.
The south elevation consists of four bays and includes an additional single-storey extension to the right. It features regular fenestration on both floors, although two bays to the left are blind. An advanced single-storey piend-roofed section on the outer right begins the screen wall.
The east and north elevations were not visible in 1999. The villa is fitted with four-pane timber sash and case windows and has a grey slate roof, with corniced wallhead and ridge stacks, as well as circular and polygonal chimney cans. The cast-iron rainwater goods complete the exterior.
The interiors were not seen in 1999. The property is also accompanied by square-plan gatepiers at the vehicular entrances and a coped rubble boundary wall that encloses the site.
