1 Aitken's Place, Lerwick

2 Aitken's Place in Lerwick is an 18th-century, 2-storey, 3-bay symmetrical house that features an early 19th-century, 3-storey, 2-bay addition to the north. The building is constructed with random rubble walls accented by droved ashlar dressings. It has margined windows with projecting sills and blank gables on the north and south sides.

The west elevation, which is the principal facade, presents a 5-bay asymmetrical appearance. The right side consists of the 3-bay symmetrical house, which has a regular arrangement of windows and a modern porch at the center of the ground floor, framed by margins. To the left, there is a 2-bay section that includes a modern flat-roofed addition at the ground level and narrow windows in the bay to the right.

On the east elevation, which is the rear, there are small infilled windows at both the ground and first floors, centered on the 3-bay house to the left. To the right, the 2-bay addition features a partially infilled door at the ground level and a window at the first floor.

The building has modern glazing throughout and is topped with a purple-grey slate roof. The chimneys are made of stugged rubble and ashlar, with coped tops and circular cans.

The boundary wall is constructed from random rubble and features a stugged saddleback cope on the west side. It is terminated to the south by a square stugged gatepier with a cap and base.
