Description
2 Manderston Mains is a pair of 2-storey, 6-bay cottages designed by John Kinross, dated 1905, which may incorporate earlier elements. The cottages are harled with polished ashlar margins and feature a base course.
The southeast elevation is symmetrical, with two advanced bays at the ground level that have a lean-to roof. Each bay contains two narrow windows, and there is a date stone at the center. The first floor has tripartite windows in each bay that break the eaves, with mock timber framing in the gable heads and studded timber bargeboarding on the gables. Each penultimate bay has an advanced ashlar doorpiece with boarded doors and sawtooth battered coping. The outer bays have tripartite windows at ground level and bipartite windows above on the first floor, each with gabled dormerheads that feature bargeboarding.
The northwest elevation has a lean-to projection running continuously along its length, with two bipartite windows that break the eaves and are gabled on the first floor.
The cottages have 10-pane timber sash and case windows, a slate roof, and four ashlar coped stacks. The interior was not seen in 1995.
