Description

Simprim Mains is a house built around 1860, featuring later additions and alterations. It is a symmetrical, two-storey, three-bay structure designed in a plain classical style. To the right, there is a single-storey, four-bay wing that is recessed, and to the left, a single-storey, piended addition is also recessed. At the rear, there is a porch addition. The house is constructed from squared and snecked tooled sandstone rubble with droved sandstone dressings, and it has a raised base course and a moulded eaves course. The quoins are droved, and there are droved long and short surrounds to the openings, along with projecting cills. Additionally, there is a single-storey, rectangular plan ancillary structure at the rear.

On the southeast (entrance) elevation, there is a deep-set timber panelled door at the center of the ground floor, topped with a sunburst fanlight and supported by consoled brackets beneath a corniced doorpiece. A single window is aligned above on the first floor, with single windows in both flanking bays at both floors. The single-storey wing to the right features a small-paned glazed door in the outer left bay, with bipartite and tripartite windows in the two bays to the right, and a timber door in the outer right bay. The single-storey addition to the outer left also has a small-paned glazed door.

The southwest (side) elevation has single windows at both floors in the outer right bay and a tripartite window centered in the single-storey addition to the outer left. The northwest (rear) elevation features a projecting porch at the ground floor, with a single window aligned above and single windows in the flanking bays on the first floor. The single-storey wing is attached to the outer left.

The windows predominantly have 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case style. The roof is covered with grey slate and features both piended and platformed sections, along with cast-iron rainwater goods. There are stepped and corniced brick wallhead stacks on the northeast and southwest sides, with various chimney cans.

The interior was not seen in 1998. The ancillary structure is made of squared sandstone rubble and has a boarded timber door offset to the left of center on the southwest (entrance) elevation, with a single opening at the center of the southeast (side) elevation. It also has a grey slate piended roof, and its interior was not seen in 1998.

The boundary walls surrounding the garden at the front are made of rubble and are coped with rubble. There are quadrant walls flanking the entrance, which features a timber gate.
