Memorials in burial ground, Kirkurd Old Church, Kirkurd

This listing covers a group of ornately carved memorials within the burial ground of Kirkurd Old Church, near Castlecraig. The memorials date from the 17th century and early 18th century. The group comprises four upright memorial stones, one dated 1614 and bearing a heraldic shield depicting three birds. Three table tombs, one dated 1704, and a recumbent slab are also included. Several stones are in excellent condition, retaining legible inscriptions and carvings of mortality symbols such as winged angel heads, winged hourglasses, and profile skulls with crossed bones, all carved in high relief. These memorials predate the construction of a new church, located approximately one kilometer to the west, built in 1766.

The original church associated with the burial ground has largely been demolished; the only remaining structure is a burial aisle, which is a separately designated scheduled monument (SM3106) and is excluded from this listing. The listing excludes scheduled monument SM3106 according to Section 1 (4A) of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) (Scotland) Act 1997.
