Description

The Mercat Cross stands on village green in front of the Court House. It comprises three steps leading to a pedestal, supporting a round shaft with a Corinthian capital. Atop the capital stands a lion holding a shield bearing the coat of arms of the Marchmont family in its paws. The cross is believed to have been erected in 1829. It is designated a Scheduled Monument. Further information can be found in Scottish Market Crosses by J.W. Small, plate 86.
