Description
Knowe Bridge, built around 1770, is a single segmental-arch bridge that spans the Quair Water. It features a high stone parapet, and the approaches are splayed, ending in rough circular piers. The bridge is constructed from whinstone rubble with dressed whinstone voussoirs.
On the northeast and southwest elevations, the wide segmental arch is made of dressed whinstone voussoirs, with a rubble intrados on the main bridge. The plain rubble spandrels lead up to the parapet wall, which is topped with rough semi-circular whinstone copes. The plain splayed wing walls also end in crude circular piers, which have roughly hewn circular whinstone caps on top. The bridge carries a tarmacadam road.
