Description

Ranfurly Castle Golf Club is a golf clubhouse designed by J A Campbell, built between 1904 and 1905. This 3-storey and attic building features an asymmetrical design with six bays and is situated overlooking the golf course to the west. The ground and first floors are constructed of red brick, while the second floor is finished in contrasting render. A band course runs above the first floor, and the windows are arranged irregularly, predominantly consisting of single, two-light, and four-light openings, with some canted window designs. The attic includes flat-roofed dormers, and there is a full-height canted stair tower on the south elevation.

The principal elevation is asymmetrical, with advanced end bays. It has a central recessed section with four bays and a raised terrace accessed by steps leading to the golf course. To the left, there is an off-centre rectangular timber entrance door. The second floor features canted windows, while the far left bay has a canted window at both the first and second storeys, topped with a jerkin-headed gable. The far right bay includes a canted and corbelled window at both floors and a piend-roof balcony at the attic, supported by a pair of columns.

The entrance elevation is also asymmetrical, featuring an off-centre round-arched stone entrance that leads to part-glazed inner swing doors. Above this entrance, there are two distinctive cylindrical stained glass windows with a deep timber cornice. The advanced end bays include one on the left with half timbering on the upper storey.

Inside, as of 2013, the original room layout remains largely intact. The staircase features slatted timber balusters with a small heart decoration motif and a timber banister. One room showcases exposed timber rafters and a brick fireplace with a semi-circular opening and timber mantelpiece. Some timber panel doors have three-light openings in their upper sections.

The windows are predominantly timber casements with a multi-pane glazing pattern, although some have been replaced. The building has a mansard roof covered in grey slates, with mid-roof shouldered stacks and red fireclay chimney cans.
