Description
Inverbraan Cottage and Craigview are a pair of single-storey and attic, three-bay cottages built in the early 19th century. They are constructed of rubble and are located in Inver. Inverbraan Cottage, which is to the west, has an entrance extension added to its west elevation around 2023. A plaque on the front of Inverbraan Cottage notes that it was the home of Charles Macintosh, the 'Perthshire Naturalist', from 1839 to 1922.
At the rear of the cottages, there is a low-profile, mono-pitched extension that spans much of the building's width and features a pair of low dormer windows in the center. This extension is made of rendered brick and has a concrete tile roof.
The windows are mainly timber sash and case frames with a four-pane glazing pattern. The pitched roof is covered with slates and includes four replacement rooflights on the south side. There is a replacement brick-built chimneystack at the center of the roof ridge, while the end chimneystacks were removed after 1964.
Interior photographs of Inverbraan Cottage taken in 2024 reveal a decorative scheme from the late 20th century to early 21st century, along with some secondary glazing on the interior windows.
Historically, this pair of cottages is shown on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map from 1863, published in 1866, which indicates their early 19th-century style and construction. The 2nd Edition Ordnance Survey map from 1899 shows small extensions on the west and east elevations, which historic images from 1964 suggest were timber entrance porches.
