Description
Comrie Farm is a well-detailed, tall two-storey L-plan steading built in the earlier to mid 19th century and refurbished in 1995. It is prominently located on raised ground overlooking the River Lyon and features a design in the Gothick manner associated with the Breadalbane Estate. The building is constructed of snecked rubble with large squared rubble quoins and lintels.
A notable feature is the three-storey corner tower, which has a pavilion roof to the south and a bargeboarded gable to the north. The structure includes four-centred arches, voussoirs, and arrowslit ventilation. The eastern arm of the steading has a row of four cart arches on the south elevation facing the courtyard, along with a gable end to the east. The southern arm features a cart arch on the south gable and an additional dormer-headed arched opening at the first floor of a gabled projection that adjoins the angle tower to the north. The tower itself has cart arches on the ground levels to the north and west, as well as a glazed oculus at the north gablehead.
The windows are casement style, and the roof is covered with grey slates, incorporating modern rooflights. The eaves are deeply overhanging with exposed rafters and decorative bargeboards. The interiors of the building were all renewed in 1995.
