Description

William Burn 1832 (for J. Hunter) 2-storey asymmetrical

Scots Jacobean, dark red stugged ashlar crowstepped gables,

partly with sculptured dormerheads. Interior largely

remodelled in sumptuous Renaissance style, large richly

sculptured porte cochere with doric columns, marble-lined

conservatory and billiard room S. wing and terraces Burnet

Son and Campbell 1887 (for James Reid the art-collector).

Tower in angle of E. front (originally had conical roof)

raised with ogee capped turret and balustraded parapet

early 1900s. Later work of Dumfries stone, of brighter

red than original.
