Wash House, Well Road, Scotlandwell

The wash house on Well Road in Scotlandwell was designed by David Bryce and is dated 1860. It is a single-storey, single-bay building with a rectangular plan, constructed from squared and snecked tooled sandstone that is polished at the margins. The structure features long and short quoins, chamfered reveals, overhanging eaves, and timber barge boards.

The north elevation is symmetrical and includes a gabled doorway that breaks the eaves, featuring a kingpost detail and a boarded timber door accessed by a single stone step. The west elevation is gabled and blank. The south elevation has two symmetrically placed gableted bipartite windows that also break the eaves, along with a louvred zinc ventilator located at the center of the ridge. The east elevation is gabled and displays a tooled trefoil at the center of the gablehead, which reads "TBA 1860," referring to Thomas Bruce of Arnot.

The glazing is obscured by corrugated-iron shuttering, and the roof is covered with graded grey slate and has a lead ridge. The chimney stacks have been removed. The interior was not seen in 1999. The property is enclosed by rubble boundary walls topped with semicircular coping.
