Description
Madderty Parish Church dates back to 1668, as indicated on the east gable, and was rebuilt in 1689. The initials M.I.G. can be found on the south wall. The church features a simple harled rectangular structure with crowstepped gables. It has an ogee-capped birdcage bellcote at the west gable and an ornamental finial at the east. The roof was re-roofed by William Lindsay in 1765 and underwent gothic alterations by G.T. Ewing in 1897. Notable architectural details include a rose window in the west gable, which consists of a configuration of 1-3-3-1 cusped lancets, a tall single lancet on the east wall, and a porch added to the center of the north side.
