7 Pitheavlis Cottages, Necessity Brae, Perth

1 Pitheavlis Cottages, located on Necessity Brae in Perth, was built around 1920 and is designed in the English Arts-and-Crafts style, possibly by James Miller. The main block is a single-storey structure with a dormerless attic, featuring harled side and centre gables. The centre gable has a kerb roof and is slate hung, complemented by twin, brick-built canted bays. There are four half-timber and brick porches, which showcase herringbone work in the re-entrant angles at the gables, and the roofs are slated.

The east and west blocks form a single-storey U-plan layout, also harled, with two half-timber and brick porches that include herringbone work in the re-entrant angles. The window surrounds are made of header bricks, with every third brick laid as a stretcher at the rybats, and these blocks also feature slated roofs.
