Description
The Boathouse at Viera Lodge in Rousay is a late 18th-century, two-storey house with a symmetrical rectangular plan and a single-storey service wing to the west, finished in white harling.
On the south elevation, there is a central doorway featuring a panelled door with glazed upper panels. Flanking this doorway are single windows at both the first floor and ground floor. The single-storey service wing is attached to the outer right side.
The north (rear) elevation showcases a two-storey M-gabled wing that projects forward and includes a lean-to porch. There are single windows located at the ground and first floors to the right of the porch, and another single window at the first floor to the left of the porch.
The west elevation features a single-storey wing that advances at ground level and has no openings. The east elevation is gabled with a single window at ground level to the right. The building has 12-pane sash and case windows and a Caithness slate roof, which is laid on battens and secured with wooden pegs or nails. The gablehead stacks are coped, and there are small skylights on the south side.
Inside, the property includes panelled doors, plaster cornices, and original fireplaces. Additionally, there is a single-storey pitch-roofed boathouse, single-storey M-gabled outbuildings with slate roofs and stone ridging, as well as drystone gatepiers and boundary walls surrounding the property.
