Description
23 Balfour Village in Shapinsay is a pair of two-storey, four-bay buildings dating from the mid-19th century. They have gable ends facing the road and are situated behind free-standing gate piers that lead to Balfour Castle, serving as lodges. Both buildings feature ends with canted angles that are corbelled to a square at the first floor. Number 23 is harled, while Number 21 is constructed of roughly coursed rubble. The gable ends have bipartite windows at the ground level and single lights above. The side elevations facing the drive have irregular fenestration, and each house is topped with two wallhead stacks. The entrances are located on the elevations away from the drive, and both buildings have graded slate roofs.
