Description
55-63 Main Street in Kilsyth is a three-storey shop and tenement block designed by architect George Hay, built between 1904 and 1905, showcasing Art Nouveau influences. The building is constructed of red ashlar and features five windows across its façade, with alternate splayed bays set in cavetto recesses on the upper two storeys. It has a main bracket cornice with pilaster details at the ends, and the first-floor cornices are adorned with sinuous keyblock treatments and parapets that have curved tops.
The original shop fronts include an overall fascia, some with engraved glass, and doors that feature onion-shaped fanlights. Inside No 55, the interior retains original woodwork screens, stained glass, and light fittings.
