Description
St Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, located at 30 Low Craigends in Kilsyth, was built in 1964 by the architectural firm Gillespie, Kidd and Coia. The church features a rectangular plan and is situated on a sloping site. It is constructed of red brick and has a flat steel-truss roof that is clad in copper, with deep eaves that project at a 45-degree angle. There is a copper-clad set-back zone between the roof and the top of the brick walls.
The south entrance front has six vertical glazing bands that are set back from the brick surface, with the right band positioned significantly further back. The bands vary in width. There is a small flat-roofed porch on the left that was not included in the original drawings. Above the altar on the right, there is a triangular roof light. The east and west fronts are plain, with a small inset two-light window located on the ground level of the west front on the left.
The north front faces a paved piazza that is surrounded by planting on all sides except the north. It features vertical glazing strips on the right and an inset on the left, with a pier to the right that has convex angles and a large cross. To the left of the glazing strip, there is a projecting concrete corbel course with glazing set within arches. The upper part of the wall aligns with the front face of the corbel course, while the lower part is inset, leading to a small lean-to porch with a copper roof and strip glazing at the rear.
The interior of the church has not been seen.
