Southern Outbuilding, Nunton Farmhouse, Benbecula

The Northern Outbuilding at Nunton Farmhouse in Benbecula dates from the late 18th to early 19th century and was originally a small mansion, which has since been converted into three houses. The building consists of two rectangular blocks arranged in an L-shape, forming two sides of a courtyard, which is closed off to the north by a pair of square-plan outbuildings with pyramidal roofs, with an entry between them. The eastern wall features corniced square gatepiers and the exterior is harled.

The west range is likely the earliest section, displaying a three-bay courtyard elevation. Its asymmetrical west elevation includes an off-centre piended porch and upper windows with piended dormer heads. The taller south range has a six-bay south front, featuring two doors leading to the courtyard, one of which is set in a piended timber porch, with attic dormers above. The windows are mainly 12-pane sash windows, and the building has corniced end and axial stacks, straight skews, and slate roofs.

The outbuildings are each single storey with an attic and feature a two-bay north elevation, along with coped apex stacks. There is an extensive range of walled gardens to the east and a small enclosure to the west, all constructed from rubble with pitched coping.
