David Ross Lodge, Ferry Road, Dingwall

Ross Memorial Hospital, opened on 25 October 1873, was designed by W C Joass. It features a modern rear extension and has detached blocks nearby.

The main block consists of three parallel single-storey gabled sections arranged symmetrically, with three-bay linking corridors that are slightly recessed from the south gables, creating a balanced southern façade. The architecture combines Elizabethan and Jacobean details, including two-centred arches and gabled dormer heads. The building is constructed of rubble with ashlar dressings, stop-chamfered arrises, and retains its original glazing, which includes casements and top-hoppers. The roofs are slate, with moulded skews topped with finials and ridge stacks. The central block is the largest, featuring a three-bay front, an attic storey, and a central porch with an inscription panel. The outer ward blocks have single bay ends and three-bay flanks, with the west outer flank obscured by additions and alterations made to the centre bay of the east outer flank for wheelchair access. Each linking corridor has gabled dormer heads above bipartite windows, and the centre bay of each link includes a shallow porch, although the doors have been converted to windows, with a gable-head stack located behind. The modern extensions are large but flat and low.

Nearby, the David Ross Lodge has an inscription stating it was "erected by the Wester Ross Farmers Club and other friends as a memorial to Provost David Ross of Dingwall, for 30 years secretary of the club and constant friend to this hospital, 1895." This single-storey cottage-style building is mostly constructed from materials similar to those of the main block, except for an off-centre rustic timber porch on its four-bay flank. Its south gable is sympathetically detailed with skews and a finial, and it features a large inscription panel over a window, with a modern harled addition adjoining the north gable. There is also a detached low block to the west, possibly an isolation hospital built in 1909, which has a shallow-pitched roof and advanced two-bay ends on its long south front, along with a modern porch at one end. This block appears to be early 20th century in style, built of snecked rubble with contrasting ashlar dressings, plate glass sash windows, deep eaves, paired stacks, and a slate roof.
